Units

1- Research and development unit: This unit starts its activities from July 2007 by introducing research – operational projects, and was able to successfully finishing some researching projects. This unit demonstrated many scientific articles in interior and over-seas conferences. By approaching to this point this unit shows its realistic and affective place in the heart of industries. This department provides suitable plant for using technology as a mean for today’s industry by making bilateral relationship between industry and universities.
1-1- Aims: Research, execution of corrective processes and better producing by having a strong view in exact management of abilities and increasing of productivity in using a chain of providing materials and energy could be introduced in 4 main fields:
1- Technology and process engineering
2- Production
3- Chain of providing materials
4- Software system’s developmentTo gain these aims, the descriptive projects will be done through using programming and exact control in 3 main operational phases as below:
1- Collecting data and primary researches to gain the truth and creating scientific bases.
2- Discovery development to evaluate the first phase that leads to creation of benefical approaches.
3- Analyzing and making result together with software developing.1-2- Projects:
- Development of data mechanism inside the production process (POS & PIS ) and (PUS )
- Designing and assembling a unique system for saving, repair and controlling the instrument’s activities (TRM)
- Programming a time sheet for making benefical production of (PRO)
- A developed laboratory system (LIMS)
- Document’s Management Mechanism (DMM)
1-3- Results:
- Modeling and simulation of tower (RDC)
- Dedicating the selected article in Process and Chemistry Engineering Congress (CHISA 2008)
- Mechanized system of production data
2- Furfural Units: To prevent the tense changes in oil gravity due to changes in temperature, aromatic combinations should be void of oil. In Pars Oil Refinery, the process of taking aromatics from the input food (Lubkat) in furfural units 1 and 2 are conducted in liquid-liquid extraction method and by using furfural solution. The capacity of each furfural units, considering the diversity in the input food and the required product, is different and in the range of 10-19 cubic meters per hour. The products of these units are raffinate (aromatic-free oil) and extract (aromatic-rich oil).
3- Separation Unit (MEK): Linear carbohydrates (paraffin) in oil increases the fridge temperature of oil, resulting in the solidification of oil in the room temperature. In Pars Oil Refinery separating process in this regard is conducted using a solution of metal, ethyl and keton (MEK) and toloen.
If the input food is raffinate, the output will be base oil whereas if the input food is Lubkat, the output will be dewaxed oil. Other product of the separation unit is slack wax.
The production capacity of the separation unit depends on the type of input food and the final product. However it changes from 19 to 27 cubic meters per hour.
4- Sulfur absorption unit: One of the requirements of the separation unit in Pars Oil Refinery is that the process should be conducted in low temperatures below the zero centigrade.
The sulfur absorption unit is responsible for providing the necessary cool for the separation process through a cycle in which sulfur is used as an operational fluid.
At present, the absorption unit has a capacity of 1200000 kilo callery per hour for producing the cool. Another absorption unit is currently going to be installed in the refinery.
5- Utilities Unit: It is one of the most essential units in all subsets of oil industry such as refineries. Utilities unit is responsible for providing industrial water, steam, condensed air, electricity and other utilities and also filteration of industrial and sanitary wastewater.5-1- Steam production unit: The steam required for operational units and other units is produced in this section. This steam is either consumed freely in strippers or recycled by condensing the steam water which is also called Condensate Recovery. There are three boilers in the steam production unit:6- Grease producing unit: Different types of grease with different bases are produced in this unit which is unique in the country. The input for this unit is dewaxed oil, base oil, fat and … The productioncapacity ofthe grease unit is presently about 8000 tons per year.
- Bronsork boiler with the nominal capacity of 45 (t/h) steam with pressure 15 (Kg/cm2)
- W&B boiler with the nominal capacity of 30 (t/h) steam with pressure 14 (Kg/cm2)
- Girulla boiler with the nominal capacity of 22 (t/h) steam with pressure 11 (Kg/cm2)
It is remarkable to say that a new boiler with the capacity of 85 (t/h) will become operational in the near future considering an increase in production capacities in different sections of the refinery and the increasing need to producing steam.
5-2- Industrial waste material filteration unit: Industrial waste material is filtered in this unit only. Human waste will be transferred to absorption wells. Light oil materials will come to the surface of water when waste materials are passed through two parallel pools while heavy materials will deposit by passing time. The waste material will then enter the dissolved air flotation DAF unit in which solution oils and minerals will be separated by injecting chemical materials and condensed air in a manner that the current oil and COD will reduce by about 90 and 40 percent respectively.5-3- Compressors Unit: Humid and dry, air as well as neutral gas, are produced in this unit. Three compressors are used to produce plant air while four compressors are used to produce instrument air. At present, the maximum plant air required for operational units of the refinery (except for blending and packaging units) stands at 160 Nm3/h and the maximum instrument air is 310 Nm3/h which will increase in future respectively to 610 and 790 Nm3/h.
It is remarkable to say that there are separate compressors in other units such as blending and packaging.
Also, neutral gas (Azot) required is produced by two generators only for the separation unit at present. The maximum consumption of neutral gas stands presently at 150 Nm3/h.
5-4- Power plant Unit: There are four gas engine generators for generating electricity required for the process and other operational units each with the capacity of 2.1 MW. Two other such generators will be installed in the near future for future projects.5-5- Water filteration unit: For supplying the industrial water required for the refinery, two wells are used. The water taken from these wells will be directed to the water filteration unit so that its solid materials could be extracted and prepared for use in other units. A new water filteration system based on osmoz reverse method has been recently set up with the capacity of 80 m3/h.
7- Barrel and canister producing units: The production of nominal capacity of barrel and canister making unit is 5500 quart canister, 2700 gallon canister and 250 barrels.
8- Blending unit: It is necessary to use additives in the separation unit to improve the quality of the oil. In the blending unit, different types of additives are added to the oil according to the type of the final product which will be sent to the packaging and storing units afterwards. A new automatic blending unit is being set up to precisely add additives to the oil. The capacity of the current blending unit stands at about 170000 m3/year based on base oil.
9- Tankfarm unit: Processed, semi-processed and non-processed oil products are stored in tanks in this unit. The tanks come in different sizes and are equipped with weak-pressure steam coil which is used for making the oil products warm and prevent their solidification so that they can be easily pumped to the packaging unit. The capacity and number of tanks depend on the type of final product and the time of production and stoppage. For example the capacity of lubkat storage tanks has been calculated so that the lubkat can be stored for several weeks in case of emergency.
The storage tanks can be used for lubkat, raffinate, extracts, paraffin and water.
10- DCS: Before 2005, basic operational units of the refinery included furfural units 1 and 2, separation and absorption units which were controlled by pneumatic unit separately. In 2005, basic measures were taken to improve the performance, efficiency, speed and preciseness of pneumatic control units by upgrading them to electronic systems and connecting them to the central control room. The Distributed Control System is used in control rooms which are equipped with Zimens facilities.
11- Training , Sanitation, recreational center and library:
